Annual Scientific Conference of Vietnam Academy for Water Resources

On the morning of January 17, 2019 in Hanoi, the Vietnam Academy for Water Resources held the 2019 Annual Scientific Conference. This is the annual scientific activity of VAWR and in a series of the event that takes place from January 18 to January 19, including the Annual Scientific Conference, Sports Games and the 2018 Summarizing Conference of VAWR

Attending the Conference on the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development were Mr. Dinh Vu Thanh - Deputy Director of the Science, Technology and Environment Department; Mr. Nguyen Truong Son - Deputy General Director of the Vietnam Disaster Management Authority, Mr. Nguyen Duc Quang - Director of Department of Disaster Response and Remedy, Ms. Le Thi Kim Cuc - Director of Department of Science, Technology and International Cooperation - Water Resource Directorate; Mr. Nguyen Viet Anh - Deputy Director of Irrigation Works Management Department; On the side of the Ministry of Science and Technology, there were leaders and experts of the Department of Science and Technology in the economic and technical sectors, the Department of Social Sciences, Humanities and Nature, the Department of Local Science and Technology Development, Department of Technology development and use, Offices of State-level key programs. On the side of science and technology organizations, there were the Water Resources University, the Institute of Water Resources Planning, the Vietnam Irrigation Construction Consultancy Corporation, Bac Hung Hai and Bac Nam Ha Irrigation Exploitation Company and experts, an old scientists from inside and outside of the Academy.

On the side of Vietnam Academy for Water Resources, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Viet - Party Committee Secretary, Director General; Prof. Dr. Tran Dinh Hoa - Deputy Secretary of Party Committee, Deputy Director General; Prof. Dr. Tang Duc Thang - Deputy Director General; Leaders of affiliated units, leaders of specialized divisions, centers, and scientific sub-units; Officials with a doctoral or higher degree, doctoral candidates of the Academy.

2018 was a successful year for scientific and technological activities of VAWR with the number of scientific and technological tasks and funding reaching a high record level. Along with that, the research results also achieved very impressive numbers. Many scientific and technological products of the Academy made practical contributions to the Ministry's direction activitiesto the agriculture production as well as have been applied into practice.

The Academy had 12 articles published in ISI magazine, 1 article published in Scopus magazine, 03 articles published in the prestigious International Journal, dozens of research works of the Academywere published at international conferences and more than 200 articles introducing research results of the Academy published in prestigious domestic journals.

The Academy is also accredited with 03 copyrights, 06 useful solutions and many copyright and utility solutions accepted by the National Office of Intellectual Property.

Research projects ending in 2018 mostly have practical applications to practice, bringing high socio-economic efficiency such as experimental technology models, technological solutions, processes, manual handbook, scientific bases to help the ministry and sectors issueing documents and circulars…

Research directions of the Academy are increasingly clearly shaped and continuely to be added with new tasks, focusing on groups of tasks to comprehensively solve and unify major issues, focal points of the sector and the country such as  coastal erosion in the Mekong Delta; research task group of the Red River, Mekong River and other large basins; the task group of technology for underground water exploitation for daily life water supply in areas where water is scarce; and the task group for drought research in the Central Highlands and South Central Coast, drought-salinity in the Mekong Delta...

VAWR also actively promoted, grasped and approached the latest and most advanced technologies in the worldin the research field of the Academy to propose and develop researchtasks, transfer research results into practice.

The purpose of the Conference is to introduce some outstanding research results of Vietnam Academy for Water Resources in 2018, major research orientations in the coming time; Enhancing cooperation and exchange of scientific and technological information between managers and scientists inside and outside the Academy to improve the quality of scientific products and the practical applicability of scientific products and the technology of the Academy.

Party Secretary - Director General of VAWR -Assoc.Prof.Dr.Nguyen Vu Viet delivered the opening speech of the Conference

At the opening of the Conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Viet - Party Secretary - Director General of VAWR affirmed that this was the largest academic activity conference of the Academy that belong to the series of events taking place from January 17 to January 18, includes the Annual Scientific Conference and the Work Summary Conference of 2018 of the VAWR. This conference brings 17 articles on the research works of the authors in the Academy published in the Science and Technology Collection of 2018 of the Academy and selected 07 articles at this Conference.

Sharing about the scientific and technological work of the Academy, the Director of the Academy said that 2018 is the record year for the scientific tasks of the Academy with 49 National-level tasks to study major issues of the Sector and the country such as Red river research clusters, groundwater research clusters, coastal landslide research clusters in the Mekong Delta, research clusters of rice-shrimps ... and many independent topics at the State level, topics of the Science program KC08 and KC09, Ministry-level and provincial-level topics ... Most of the results of these topics have been put into practical applications. Funds for implementing scientific tasks accounted for 28.3% of the total revenue for the Academy and grew by approximately 18%.

In addition to achievements in science and technology, the Academyhad a number of articles published in ISI Magazine suddenly in this year with 12 articles.The authors of these articles will be awarded a very high score in the Academy competition.

“In 2018, the Academy achieved a comprehensive victory on all aspects of political tasks and science and technology tasks. The above achievements are thanks to the attention of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Ministry of Science and Technology and the assistance and facilitation of units inside and outside the Ministry. Besides, the effort of the leaders of the Academy leadership, of affiliated units and all staff of the Academy.”

On behalf of Vietnam Academy for Water Resources, The Director General announced the opening of the Conference and wished the Conference a great success.

At the Conference, delegates were heard by speakers who are scientists from the Vietnam Academy for Water Resources presenting reports on the issue of Red River Delta water security and proposing solutions; Situation of water pollution in irrigation systems in the Red River Delta and orientingtechnologyscience solutions to control and protect; Introducing a group of topics to study solutions to underground water exploitation for domestic and production water supply for water-scarce areas; Current situation and scientific, technological solutions to prevent landslides, river/sea bank protection in the Mekong Delta; Orientation of research and application of technology 4.0 in the field of precise irrigation combined with cultivation measures for agricultural production; Application of space technology for water resource management in the Central Highlands to serve agricultural production; Implementing the Law onHydraulic Works.
