Workshop on Water Resources Security in the Context of Climate Change in Vietnam

On 19/4/2017, Vietnam Academy for Water Resources in collaboration with the Association of Foreign Investment Enterprises, the German Cooperation Organization, German International Cooperation Organization organized the workshop on “International Water Security in the Context of Climate Change in Vietnam” at the Pullman Hotel.

Mr. Tran Viet Thanh, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Science and Technology attended and opened the workshop; Mr. Jorg Ruger, German ambassador in Vietnam. Associate Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Viet, Director of Vietnam Academy of Water Resources; Prof. Dr. Tran Dinh Hoa, Deputy Director of the Academy. There are more than 120 delegates attended the workshop.

The workshop’ aim is: Increase awareness about the impacts of climate change on the environment in general and water resources security in particular; A forum for exchange of local and international experts on technology, practical experience in environmental disaster prevention and response to climate change.

Speaking at the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Vu Viet said: "The concept of "Water security "is not only providing enough water for human and economic activities, but also is to ensure that the environment, healthy aquatic ecosystems and the ability to prevent water-related disasters in countries. In the future, the water demand and the impacts of water resources on food security and energy will be of particular concern. Cause by water is a key to sustainable development"... and "Discussion at the workshop on policy, governance, infrastructure development, advanced technologies to water sources conservation will be aggregated and sent to relevant agencies, policy makers and donors so that the parties can work together to secure water supply  in the future "
