Theoretical study to propose a drought management framework for river basins in Vietnam

Due to effects of climate change, droughts have been increasingly complicated in recent years and in the future in Vietnam, especially in South Central and Highlands of Vietnam. Forecasting and early warning of droughts are more and more difficult, thereby, leads to lack of proactive plans for preparedness and response. As the results, damages caused by droughts are quite serious in severe drought periods. To contribute to more efficient drought management, this paper proposes the drought management framework for Vietnam based on referring experiences of some countries on the world which are feasible to apply in conditions of Vietnam.


Analyze the changes of the Chu River bed by using survey data and remote sensing images

In recent years, Chu river, downstream of Cua Dat reservoir (Thanh Hoa province), has faced with river bed change severely. Beside of the river change due to hydrodynamics and sediment transport naturally, the river morphology has been changed due to impact of human activities on the main river, as building reservoir, and sand mining. This paper presents some initial results in analysing the river morphology from downstream of Cua Dat reservoir to the Giang bifurcation based on measurements data of topographic, geological data and remote sensing.

Field structure and field irrigation system for advanced production method in the North Central region

On-farm irrigation system is an important infrastructure foragriculture development as well as rural development. Based on results of assessing actual situation in three provinces namely Nghe An, Ha Tinh and Thua-Thien-Hue, this research proposes the farm structure and on-farm irrigation systemmeeting for advanced agriculture production in the Northern central region. The farm structure and on-farm irrigation system have been combined with farm roads to promote agricultural production mechanizationfor large scale. The on-farm irrigation planning schemes ensurefor convenient management, since these schemes can provide water to each farm plotso that each plot can be cultivated indecently, not affecting to the others.


A model of full self-reliant unit of management of rural water supply system in Tra Vinh province and some recommendations on policies to improve the operation efficiency of post-investment works.

Tra Vinh is one of the best provinces on development of model for effective, sustainable management and operation of Rural water supply systems after constructed stage. Now, model of provincial center for rural water supply & sanitation in Tra Vinh is one of fully independent public service unit. Revenue from rural water supply service in 2012 is 26,12 bill.VND, depreciation of fixed assets about 6,79 bill.VND; Estimation revenue of the center in 2013 is more than 30 bill.VND from rural water supply service for 57.224 households' customers. This is significant numerous which rare of provinces in the country obtains from operation and management of infrastructure invested from national strategy for rural water supply and sanitation

Study on calculation, design and manufacture of axial and vertical turbines for low-head hydropower plants in Vietnam

Production of hydropower plant equipment in Vietnam is considered for long time. However, due to type of turbine depends on position of hydropower project, there are very few Vietnamese water-turbine study and design firms who have enough vane wheel impeller model for designing and manufacturing a turbine. That is the reason why the hydropower project owners do not belive in turbine manufacturing ability in Vietnam.

The report will present the studying of a foreign axial turbine that is installed in Vietnam for researching and calculating a trial designing of vane wheel impeller model that supporting to manufacture of a turbine in Vietnam.


Temperature control and surface insulation in the construction of roller compacted concrete dam

The temperature development in RCC volume increase and decrease continuously from the start of excecution until operation affect the quality of the dam. To manage the quality of roller compacted concrete dam, preventing cracking phenomenon for mass concrete, the temperature control block and insulated surface is very important. Methods of handling materials in concrete mixing plant to reduce the temperature when pouring concrete mortar, temperature control from 15-17 0C at mixing in all ambient conditions and frequent temperature monitoring block pour help ensure the best quality for RCC dam construction


Experimental results on the selection of weir height and the length of the energy dissipation drop for flood discharging  through the under construction rockfill weir

Construction of large water resources and hydro power projects requires several years long-time construction flow that construction flood discharge through conduit or tunnel is high cost investing. Therefore, in some countries, solution of flood discharge through weir under construction has been being applied. This paper presents some of experimental results of research for selection of weir height and length of step for discharge flow through in-progress constructive rockfill weir.


Study on the changes of sediment in the main rivers to the Do Son - Hai Phong

It is said that Do Son coastal area, Hai Phong province, is receiving sediment of 5 major river flows which belong to the Red River system as follows: Thai Binh, Van Uc, Lach Tray, Cam and Da Bac river mouths. Caused by the socio-economic development, the surface elements variation, water resources exploitation, sand mining in the basin that make sedimentation in Do Son beach has been changed. This paper presents some results of this volatility based on mathematical models MIKE 11HD and ST calculations and simulations.


Experimental model for assessing deformation of soft soil which is reinforced by soil cement mixture poles

In the calculation of settlement of embankments on the soft soil improved with cement treated soil columns, many methods and standards are based on several simplifying assumptions. That leads to the difference between the results calculated according to these methods and measured settlements. In this paper, the authors carried out model experiments to evaluate the deformation of soft ground reinforced by soil cement columns. From comparison between the analytical analysis and test results under inclined loads, the effects of friction between the reinforcement block and surrounding soft soils can be analyzed.


Quality management in the construction of sea dike revetment.

Ensuring quality in the construction is an important requirement for the sea dikes. This paper outlined construction method from the sea dike slope protection layer (body embankments), filtered and toe. The construction of each department has its own technical requirements. So for the construction of sea dike embankment quality must ensure quality management in each stage of construction parts. However, during the construction, some of technical problems still apear errors lead to damage to the building with the main reason due to the construction of the building contractor. From the analysis of the causes, the author has made measures to improve the quality of the sea dike construction.
