In recent years, the challenge of water shortage in the dry season is a serious problem in the Central Highlands. It causes a direct impact on the lives of people everyday. This article raises a number of issues on the status of management, exploitation and usage of water resources in the Central Highlands. The difficulties and challenges mentioned in this paper has been proposed along with the recommendations of not only in scientific and technological aspects but also in management and efficient exploitation of the water resources for sustainable development in the Central Highlands.

Ring dikes have been beeeing developed in the Mekong delta, which create more advantages for agricultural production in flood season. However dikes also make disadvantages to outside region, for example increasing flood water level. The change of flood regime resulting from dikes is complicated, depending on ratio and location of dykes in the delta. This paper will present some results on flood regime change according to ratio of diked area, and some discussion will be given.

The experimental research on drip irrigation schedule (with extra micro-sprinkle system for microclimate improvement) for Grape leaves in three crop seasons with two-day, three-day and four-day irrigation frequencies at the water scarce region, Binh Thuan province. Observed daily meteorological factors for calculating the experimental crop water requierment by Penman method. Based on the calculated crop water requierment, established two other levels of irrigation water amount: increased and decreased 25% of initail water requierment (coefficients of irrigation level as m1 (high water) =1,25, m2 (initial water) = 1,00 and m3 (less water) = 0,75). Comparing with traditional irrigation technique, water amount of water saving irrigation one of two-day frequency was from 48.70 to 88.40%, three-day frequency from 47.58 to 87.81% and four-day frequency from 40.25 to 75.31%. The observed results showed that, on the same irrigation schedule, leaf weight of the blocks with extra micro-sprinkle system was higher than that one in the remaining blocks, the water use efficiency of blocks with less water level was the highest, the next ones were the blocks with initial and high water levels. Comparing with the same irrigation levels, Grape leaves of two-day frequency blocks developed more rapidly, had greater weight and earlier harvest time than those ones in three-day and four-day frequency blocks. The water use efficiency of blocks with extra micro-sprinkle system was the higher than that one in the pure drip irrigation and control blocks. The suitable drip irrigation schedule for Grape leaves has been established with two-day irrigation frequency and less water level by growing stages, it would contribute to effectively applying in agricultural prodution practice at the water scarce region.

The Vietnam government has issued a series of preferential policies on rural water supply in recent, but it is recognized that the effectiveness of these policies remains limited. Difficulty in attracting investors ismainly due to the fact that the delays in implementing the guidelines. As of September 2015, the number of provinces not implemented the guidelines are approximately 75%. The analytical results indicate that the provinces implemented the guidelines issued, not only would the rate of sustainable works  be 1.13 times higher than in the others, but the private sector got more involved. The article would present the summary of results and suggest several solutions to the implementation of rural water supply in the future.

In the recent years, the Red River bed constantly being lowered, this phenomenon has led to the sudden changes to hydrology, hydraulics regime and river bed morphology. The next consequence are  adverse impacts on the riverbedstability as well as    management ofriver and the prevention of natural disasters in the Red riversystem

Following a previous article, the results presented in this paper will be updated and supplemented with the new study of the processof the Red river bed from 2000 to present, simultaneously assess the impact of this process on the basic changeof charactoristicof hydrology regimeand morphology  of the Red river.

The biggest obstacle in Ninh Thuan province is the most scarcity of surface water in the country, rainfall is distributed unevenly between mountain areas and coastal areas. Some places have favorable conditions to build reservoirs, but many other places do not have the conditions to build reservoirs, some areas have water excess for irrigation, but other areas, surface water was very scarcity especially in the dry season. Therefore, regulating of water balance between areas on the basis of calculated and proposed solutions for water transfer of irrigation systems in Ninh Thuan province is essential in the present conditions and the future, climate change adaptation.

Breast wall spillway is used in countries around the world as well as in Vietnam ... However, references and guidance on selection of shapes, sizes, and structures, and calculation of hydraulic parameters are very limited. The article summarizes the results of some experimental studies on hydraulic model to determine flow regime and discharge capacity of this type of dam respect to different water levels, and analyzes and compares with the results of some foreign studies for practical applications.

Wedge block foundation below the embankment on soft soil is a type of shallow foundation. This foundation comprises many adjoining wedge blocks covered on them by tensile geotextile fabric. The load of embankment is reduced at the bottom of wedge block foundation due to the lateral oblique surfaces of the wedge blocks. This paper research into the reduction of load at the bottom of wedge block foundation basing on physical model.

Operating mode of the Red river's upstream reservoirs, climate change and sea level rising have impacted greatly to the saline intrusion on the northern coastal rivers. Changing of water level and salinity content have impacted to  the ability to take water of the irrigation works along the coast river sýtem. This paper presents an assessment of the ability taking water of the northern coastal irrigation works during dry season under impacts of the upper reservoir's operating and sea level rise due to climate change.

Hydraulic tunnel is one of the most important elements of irrigational or hydropower works structures must be installed to ensure the technical conditions. This kind of structure usually systems. When the excavation encountering soft soil or weak rock zones, temporary supporting consists of load bearing frames without function of reducing the roughness and improving waterproofness to protect the tunnel surrounding rocks mass. This study seeks to understand effects of temporary supporting structures on stresses in tunnel linning in order to propose solutions ensuring safety during construction and operation processes as well as reducing construction cost.

Soluble contaminant transport into groundwater aquifers is one of the current  practical problems occuring not only in Vietnam but also in many countries around the world. In this paper, according to the main objective of determining the ammonium (NH4+)  transport parameters in soil and groundwater aquifer of  Con Son Island - District Con Dao, experiments with conservative tracer - sodium chlorides and ammonium chlorides solution had been carried out on the Con Son soil columns. The transport parameters are estimated under supportting of software Hydrus 1D using the inverse parameter estimation method. Results of the experiments showed that dispersion coefficient, distribution coefficient and mass transfer coefficient characterized the ammonium transport process in the Con Son soil and aquifers are compatible with mechanical and physical properties of Con Son soil matrix and porous media.

Recently, Viet Nam has many research projects calculating and using probable maximum precipitation as a value to design or checking the safety of structures, especially structures using the funds from World Bank. In general, until now, the probable maximum precipitaiton calculation methods has relatively complete with many methods from simple to complex. However, the division or applying suitable methods for a specific geographic area, climate is not so much, especially for tropical climates. This paper focuses on calculating, analyzing the result of PMP calculation with two methods are maximization method and statistic method for Vu Gia-Thu Bon river basin, from which recommend a PMP calculation method suitable for tropical climates with the lack of the data.

Rural infrastructure is vulnerable to erosion and landslides. In the context of increasing extreme climate events due to climate change, erosion is anticipated to become more serious, which necessitates more feasible technical and economical approaches. Bioengineering application in protecting slopes from landslides and surface erosion, thereby promoting climate resilient infrastructure, has proved highly effective. In addition to cost-effectiveness, bioengineering helps to encourage biodiversity, increase local livelihoods, ensure easy and quick implementation and particularly enable local communities to perform maintenance by themselves.

When the water head at spillway crest is high, a breast wall is designed for the spillway to reduce the height of the valve gate. Spillway overflow regime is free flow (nonpressurized) with free surface when the upstream water level is low and the valve is fully opened; and when the upstream water level is higher, the flow regime through the dam is pressurized flow under the breast wall, the opening hole is submerged,  and after the breast wall, the flow regime is free flow. Determining the hydraulic parameters such as water profile, discharge capacity, velocity and pressure under pressurilized flow regime is more difficult than that under free flow. This paper summarizes the findings of methods of determining water profile and flow velocity through the breast wall spillway under pressurized flow regime, and theoretical results are compared with some experimental results and this is proposed for practical application.
