This paper presents results of calculating the effect of river and ocean dynamics processes on erosion and erosion of Dai and Loi estuaries in Quang Ngai province. Mike 21 Couple Model FM, Litpack after being verified, has been applied to simulation of dynamics and seasonal sedimentation/erosion. The results show that waves in the North-East monsoon wind play an important role in controlling the dynamics and erosion processes in Dai estuary and Lo river estuary. Wave – induced currents in this phase can be larger than 1m/s and the area of currents induced by wave are quite large, especially in estuaries. Wave current of the North-East wind play an important role in controlling the erosion and erosion of Dai and Lo estuaries. During the year when the river flow is not strong enough, the deposition of both estuaries will occur and especially in the North-East monsoon season if no major floods occur. Calculations consistent with actual morphological situation have taken place and will be the basis for proposing engineering solutions aimed at stabilizing the estuaries (Dai and Lo) in Quang Ngai Province. This is part of a national independent research project "Scientific research to propose planning and engineering solutions to stabilize Tra Khuc and Ve river in Quang Ngai province"

This paper presents the results of application of GIS technology and remote sensing images from 2012 to 2017 to illustrate the evolution of the sandbar of Cua Dai (Tra Khuc and Lo rivers) in Quang Ngai province. The results have made clear the evolution of Dai and Lo estuaries in Quang Ngai province through interpretation and analysis of satellite images, based on the trend of Dai and Lo estuaries evolution. It was estimated the roles of hydrodynamics processes such as river flow, coastal currents and waves to the formations of Dai and Lo estuaries. The results show that the main developments follow the rule of narrowing the estuaries in the dry season and opening in the rainy season with the main role of this time as the flood flow. Flood season here often accompanied by the typhoon landing in September 9-10  with heavy rain caused floods due to storm circulation causing the flow down to the flood to the estuaries.

The Lam River culvert at the downstream of Ben Thuy bridge in Hung Hoa commune, Vinh city, Nghe An province and Nghi Xuan town, Ha Tinh province were selected as a work solution to actively respond to the situation of saline intrusion due to the effects of climate change, sea level rise, ensuring active prevention of salinity (increasingly penetrating into the inland), fresh water for farming and supply of water for the Lam's downstream  in Nghe An and Ha Tinh. Determining the location, size of the works is a difficult problem. Based on the two design routes proposed by the design consultant, the results of the study, calculating the hydraulic model to select suitable locations for constructing the works were summarized in this paper.

The piano key weir (PKW) is a type of the discharge structures with a zigzag line to increase the discharge length, increase the discharge ability to unload against a traditional spillway. The discharge ability of PKW will decrease when PKW is in submerged flow, indicated by submerged coefficient n. This article presents the results of experience studies on the section model and establishes the formula for determining boundary of the submerged flow and the formula calculate of submerged flow coefficient. Calculated results according to the establish formula against the experimental results for small error, applies to range of large water head, distribution trend in accordance with hydraulic characteristic rule.

The Ban Lai spillway is structure that has complex operation include the spillway with breast wall in the middle of the river and two ogee crests-controlled spillways in side by side. The highest water column on the ogee spillway is over 10m and on the breast wall spillway is nearly 20m. With the design flood, the project should ensure discharge flow downstream does not cause flooding Lang Son city. Thus, the overall layout of the works, the problems as the boundary flow, the overflow, under the breast wall, the energy dissipator are very complex. This article presents a summary of the results of the overall hydraulic modeling test, making recommendations for modifying to ensure that the operation is safe and effective when the structure operates.

Song Than water reservoir, Ninh Thuan province is a grade II project, invested in multi-purpose construction, including irrigation water supply and daily-life water supply; water supply for economic sectors and the task of combining flood reduction, aquaculture, traffic combination ... Therefore, the safety of the works is placed on top. The article is summarized the main results of the researched alternatives for selecting the reasonable energy dissipating structure. The proposal had been technically feasible, giving good results in hydraulics of the works and has been proposed for using in construction drawings.

Vietnam has many river systems and great potential for hydropower development. However, the demand for water supply and irrigation in downstream is always an urgent requirement as it is an agricultural country. The Chu river basin with two relatively large hydropower reservoirs, Hua Na and Cua Dat, needs to be coordinated to ensure  water supply for the downstream during dry seasons, to prevent floods during rainy seasons as well as to improve the ability to supply electricity to the national grid. This paper presents a multi-reservoirs coordination to reduce the number of years of unsecured water supply or minimize the supply of water shortages.

The reservoirs in Da river system play key roles in flood control and regulation for the Red river delta. Previous flood calculation studies have considered flood release and storage capacity with respect to high flood levels (designed flood, PMF). However, the capacity of the reservoirs for flood regulation in cases of dam break in the upstream has not been fully evaluated. This paper presents the impacts of upstream dam breaks on the lower systems. The results show that not all the break dams in the upper reservoirs cause damages for the lower reservoirs, it depends on flood storage, flood release of the reservoirs and the characteristics of the hydrograph.

The impact of lowering of river bed and water level in the Red River over the years has not only altered the hydrodynamic regime but also caused adverse impacts on the operation of hydraulic works on Red river. In order to be able to propose a response plan, mitigating negative impacts if the above process continues, it is necessary to have forecasts. This paper analyzes and presents some of the latest forecasts on trends of channel process and water level change  on the Red River in the coming years in the most unfavorable conditions, it is the decline of sand and sediment with the current sand mining process is still large and uncontrolled.

Coastal erosion is a problem affecting the stability and development of the coastal economic zone in general and the coast of Thua Thien Hue Province in particular. Changes along coastline of Thua Thien Hue have been analyzed using Digital Shoreline Analysis System (DSAS) version 4.3. Multi-temporal satellite images - Landsat is used to analyze coastal variation. This study identifies serious coastal erosion along Thua Thien Hue coastline such as Quang Cong, Quang Ngan (Quang Dien); Hai Duong (Huong Tra); Thuan An town, Phu Thuan (Phu Vang); Vinh Hai and Vinh Hien (Phu Loc) ...; Coastal erosion and sedimentation at Thuan An and Tu Hien inlets threaten natural stability in the Tam Giang - Cau Hai lagoon. The results of the research will help the prevention and mitigation of natural disasters in the coastal area be more effective.

Nhat Le estuary is located in the Southeast of Dong Hoi city, Quang Binh province. In recent years, there are big changes in this estuary: deposition in river channel, erosion in the North and South coastline. This paper presents some research results on hydrodynamic characteristics of Nhat Le estuaries based on data analysis and simulation results of 2D hydrodynamic model. The results show that the hydrodynamic regime of the Nhat Le estuary varied seasonally by Northeast monsoon and Southwest monsoon. Two factors, including wave and tide cause littoral currents and morphological change in the Nhat Le estuary in which wave are the main factor. River flow factor only dominate during times when discharge of floods are significant.

This paper presents the results of research on flow and sediment transport in Nhat Le river basin (Quang Binh province) using hydrological model. The research has setup a SWAT model that simulation results agree well with observed data and then simulation with some flow scenarios taking into account the variation of land cover conditions (forest) in the period 1994-2018. Calculated results have identified the trend of changes in flow and sediment transport to Nhat Le estuary in the period: Total annual flow did not change significantly, soil erosion in the upper basin increased, but represents a non-significant change in the estuary.

The problem of climate change - sea level rise together with the lowering of river water level and increasing salinity intrusion in dry season in the Red – Thai Binh river delta in recent years is a big challenge to water resources sector and water users in the area. This paper presents the results of the application of the 1-2D (Couple Model) between MIKE11 and MIKE21 to simultaneously simulate the river-sea dynamics and salinity intrusion in the estuaries area of coastal rivers and main braches of the Red-Thai Binh river downstream. This is correspnding to the current situation, climate change scenarios and sea level rise to the year 2030, 2050.
