Meeting with the National Satellite Centre and two companies from Japan, Tdako and Restec

On 05/7/2017, in Hanoi, Vietnam Academy of Water Resources had a meeting about the use of remote sensing images and satellite data with the National Satellite Centre and two Japanese companies, Tdako and Restec.

The Japanese delegation comprised of experts in the field of satellite technology application and space technology law from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan. They were conducting an investigation in Vietnam to plan a cooperation between the two countries in developing space technology. The Japanese delegation was accompanied by a representative from the National Satellite Centre.

A/Prof. PhD. Nguyen Vu Viet, Director of the Vietnam Academy of Water Resources, A/Prof. PhD. Nguyen Tung Phong - Deputy Director of the Academy; staff from the National Key Laboratory of Marine and River Dynamics, the Center of Irrigation Software Technology, the Institute of Water Resources and Environment, the Center of Training and International Cooperation, the Planning Department and other experts in the Academy who were using satellite image service in their work.

 

According to the delegation leader, the purpose of their mission to Vietnam was to investigate the use of remote sensing images and satellite data in Vietnam at present and in the future. This was the first mission to Vietnam, and would be followed by 3 other missions, then completed by a workshop to discuss the future of satellite application in the economy, technology, and daily life.

 

 

The delegation leader expected the Vietnam Academy of Water Resources to share and provide information on the satellite application in the water resource sector.

In response to the expectation of the delegation, on behalf of the Vietnam Academy of Water Resources, A/Prof. PhD. Nguyen Vu Viet, Director of the Academy, introduced our organizational structure and profile, functions and tasks, and activity fields.

According to the Director: "At present, the Academy assists the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development developing policies and solutions to disaster prevention and rational use of water resources. The Academy is particularly entrusted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development with a number of tasks in the field of disaster prevention".

 

While implementing the tasks entrusted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Academy is also interested in the technology update in the world, such as space, satellite and communication technologies, and has started the initial application. The Academy associates with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), the University of Tokyo in the research of coastal collision; with the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) in the application and exploitation of satellite images, and a number of units in the Academy have been transferred the Google Earth Engine Toolkits.

The Director confirmed our readiness to cooperate with the delegation in this investigation and in the coming future.

The two parties exchanged and shared information of data and satellite applications in the future; satellite image analysis and use toolkits; satellite applications in water resources and climate change; and needs of the Academy for satellite data now and in the future.
