Memorandum of understanding signed between the Vietnam Academy of Water Resources, VNCOLD and Stucky, a company from Switzerland

On 10/5/2017, at the Vietnam Academy of Water Resources, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Vietnam Academy of Water Resources, the Vietnam Committee of Large Dams and Water Resource Development (VNCOLD) and Stucky about the improvement of dam safety in Vietnam

The signing ceremony was attended and witnessed by Prof.Dr. Tran Dinh Hoa - Deputy Director of the Vietnam Academy of Water Resources, Prof.Dr. Pham Hong Giang -Chairman of the Vietnam Committee of Large Dams and Water Resource Development (VNCOLD), and Dr. Stefan Mützenberg - Chief Executive Officer of Stucky.

In addition, representatives of the Planning Department, the Centre of Training and International Cooperation, and the Institute of Hydropower and Renewable Energy of the Vietnam Academy of Water Resources were also present at the ceremony.

At the ceremony, the parties exchanged and signed the memorandum of understanding of joint commitment in improving dam safety in Vietnam, including:

Firstly, the most appropriate solution to dam safety management tailored to the situation in Vietnam will be determined pursuant to the Vietnamese law and legal texts on dam safety management, with reference to Swiss standards and Stucky’s experiences.

Secondly, the cooperation with the Academy and VNCOLD will be promoted to implement the dam safety management plan in Vietnam.

Thirdly, the capacity of engineers and technical staff on dam safety will be strengthened and training will be provided for Vietnamese experts to meet the dam safety management requirements in the long term in Vietnam.

Finally, through pilot projects, the needs and benefits of implementing a system of dam safety and reservoir management will be demonstrated, resulting in specific experiences to improve dam safety management in Vietnam.
